Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated a colossal 108-ft bronze statue of Adi Shankaracharya, an 8th-century Hindu philosopher, in Omkareshwar. Known as the “Statue of Oneness,” it stands tall on the Mandhata mountain, symbolizing India’s cultural heritage and spirituality.
In a momentous event, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveiled the “Statue of Oneness,” a 108-ft-tall bronze statue of Adi Shankaracharya, an eminent 8th-century Hindu philosopher and saint. Positioned majestically on the Mandhata mountain along the serene banks of the Narmada river, this statue is a remarkable addition to the spiritual and cultural landscape.
Designed by renowned sculptor Dikshu Kukreja and skillfully crafted by Larsen & Toubro, this monumental project carries a weighty legacy, both metaphorically and literally. Weighing over 1,000 tonnes, the statue stands as a testament to India’s rich spiritual heritage. The endeavor incurred a project cost of ₹2,141 crore.
During the unveiling ceremony, Chief Minister Chouhan emphasized the profound significance of Adi Shankaracharya’s teachings, which have been instrumental in unifying India. He stated, “Shankaracharya was a great thinker and philosopher who united India through his teachings. He traveled throughout the country and established four monasteries in the four corners of India. This helped to keep India culturally united.”
The “Statue of Oneness” is a momentous addition to India’s list of iconic statues. It holds the distinction of being the third tallest statue in the country, following the Statue of Unity in Gujarat and the Statue of Liberty in the United States. Furthermore, it stands as the tallest statue of Adi Shankaracharya globally.
